Spain implements regional housing subsidies and social welfare measures

Various Spanish municipalities and regions are implementing measures to address housing and energy needs. In Navarra, a new call for rental aid provides up to 15,000 euros per home to improve habitability and increase rental availability. Similarly, L'Escala has approved over 47,000 euros in subsidies for home rehabilitation, targeting both affordable rental housing and improvements for elderly residents to promote autonomy.

In Palafrugell, more than 122,000 euros have been allocated to rehabilitate 34 homes, focusing on safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency. Meanwhile, El Perelló has modified its urban planning to establish criteria for renewable energy projects, aiming to balance energy transition with the protection of agricultural land and biodiversity.

To combat energy poverty, Reus is introducing provisional “solidarity water meters.” This initiative allows vulnerable families who lack formal housing titles to access essential water services through a temporary protocol managed by municipal social services.
