Rev. Juarez Marcondes Filho Elected Head of Brazil's Presbyterian Church Supreme Council

On July 27, 2026, Reverend Juarez Marcondes Filho was elected President of the Supreme Council of the Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil (IPB) during its 41st ordinary meeting in Manaus, succeeding Rev. Roberto Brasileiro Silva after a 22‑year tenure. Filho, a longtime pastor from Curitiba and former secretary‑executive of the council, has also led the Institute Presbiteriano Mackenzie’s Board of Curators and contributed to theological education initiatives.

Separately, the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) called on Brazilian citizens to vote responsibly in the 2026 elections, emphasizing ethical participation, anti‑corruption measures, and the defense of human dignity. Archbishop Paulo Mendes Peixoto highlighted the Church’s role in forming consciences while stressing that it does not endorse any political party.
