Telangana political tensions rise amid privilege motion and land allotment allegations

Political tensions in Telangana have escalated following a series of confrontations between the ruling Congress party and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed Congress MLAs to attend Assembly sessions to raise local issues, warning that their performance will impact the party’s chances for a second term. Reddy has accused the BRS of conspiring to disrupt the Assembly and behaving inappropriately toward officials.

In response, BRS legislators have filed a breach of privilege motion against the Chief Minister, alleging he used a fake social media post to make misleading statements regarding former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The dispute also involves allegations of social insults, including a BRS-led purification ritual using turmeric water at a site where Congress and Dalit activists had protested, an act the Congress describes as an insult to the Dalit community.

Additionally, the BRS has launched protests regarding land allotments, alleging that the government illegally provided land worth approximately Rs 250 crore to Tesseract, a company linked to the Chief Minister’s brother, for only Rs 7 crore. BRS leaders have called for investigations by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate into these land deals.
