Revelstoke Men's Health Support Network Hosts Monthly Sessions for Men’s Health Month

Community organizer Jake Stanfield, 31, founded the Revelstoke Men’s Night support group in 2024 to provide a sober, safe space for men to discuss mental‑health challenges. The monthly meetings, held on the first Monday of each month at Mountain Archives, were highlighted during Men’s Health Month in June.

Stanfield told Black Press Media, "I felt the need for a safe, sober space for men to chat," noting that personal losses to suicide motivated the initiative. The gatherings address addiction, loneliness and the difficulty of forming friendships in a resort town where social life often centers on alcohol after skiing or biking. The Canadian Mental Health Association reports that men account for three‑quarters of toxic‑drug deaths and three‑quarters of suicides in Canada, reinforcing the group’s focus on connection and compassion.

Participants are encouraged to reach out to male friends, organize shared activities and create comfortable settings for open conversation. The network welcomes people of all ages, backgrounds, religions and sexual orientations, meeting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. each month.
