Revolut blocks access to accounts of Hungarian customers

Revolut has locked the accounts of a large number of Hungarian users, preventing them from adding or withdrawing money. The restrictions began after the fintech obtained a Hungarian banking licence and linked its service to local bank accounts on May 18, giving customers Hungarian account numbers and placing the operation under the supervision of the Hungarian National Bank.

Affected users, including a long‑time customer named Gábor, report being unable to access funds for weeks and receiving only generic AI‑generated replies. Revolut said the measures are “necessary to protect the integrity of the financial system” and are triggered by “suspicious activity” and regulatory obligations, adding that it cooperates with law‑enforcement and may not disclose specific reasons. Several customers have lodged complaints with the Hungarian National Bank.
