Revolut expands financial ecosystem and targets credit growth in Brazil
Revolut is evolving from a travel-focused single-product application into a diversified financial ecosystem. The fintech company is leveraging its geographic dispersion and varied revenue streams to build resilience, noting that no single business area currently accounts for more than 23% of its total turnover.
In Brazil, Revolut aims to use the market as a global laboratory for developing credit products and risk management capabilities. According to a BTG Pactual report, the Brazilian market is strategic due to consumers' high familiarity with credit and cards. While Revolut currently lends only between 3% and 4% of its captured deposits, it has already expanded credit offerings to eligible customers across all card categories and launched a premium Ultra plan.
Ruben Germano, Revolut's General Manager in Portugal, highlighted that the company's revenue structure differs significantly from traditional banks. Revolut maintains a mix of approximately 70% commissions and 30% interest, positioning it as a challenger to incumbent institutions. The company expects credit to become a growing component of its revenue, particularly in markets like Brazil and Mexico.
