Google Cloud outage in London disrupts banking and digital services
A major technical failure in Google Cloud’s ‘europe-west2’ region in London caused widespread service disruptions across Europe and the United Kingdom on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The outage, attributed to a power-related incident at a London data center, lasted approximately eight hours.
Financial institutions were among the most heavily impacted. Digital bank Revolut reported significant issues, including blocked card payments, failed money transfers, and inability to access accounts or withdraw cash from ATMs. Other major banks, including Lloyds, HSBC, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, also experienced digital service interruptions. Google engineers worked to resolve the issue, with services beginning to recover by early afternoon.
