Rewa food safety officials conduct inspections and suspend sweet shop license

Authorities in Rewa, India, have launched a crackdown on food adulteration as part of a campaign to ensure quality sweets are available for the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival. Joint teams comprising food safety, revenue, and weights and measures officials conducted surprise inspections at various locations, including Salim Dairy, Sameria Tehsil, and Atrela.

During these inspections, officials collected samples of mawa, chhena, gulab jamun, and barfi for testing after finding suspicious silver leaf (vark) that may contain aluminum. Additionally, three weighing scales were seized for failing verification.

In a separate enforcement action at Brijwasi Sweets, the food safety team suspended the establishment's license and halted sales following the discovery of expired snacks and cold drinks. Inspectors also noted that sweets were being stored in rusted trays and dusty environments, leading to contamination. The establishment had previously failed to pay a 25,000 rupee fine. Further samples were collected from several other shops, including Gop Sweets, Kanha Sweets, and Chappan Bhog, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
