Indian food safety enforcement campaigns
Overview
Food safety authorities in India have launched enforcement campaigns to combat food adulteration ahead of upcoming festive seasons.
In Rajasthan, officials conducted raids in Salumber and Bassi under the ‘Shuddh Aahar, Milavat Par Vaar’ (Pure Food, Attack on Adulteration) campaign. These inspections resulted in the seizure and destruction of 40 kilograms of adulterated mava in Salumber and 125 kilograms of adulterated milk cake in Bassi. Authorities also collected various sweet samples for laboratory testing.
In Rewa, joint teams of food safety, revenue, and weights and measures officials conducted surprise inspections at several locations. Officials identified suspicious silver leaf that may contain aluminum and seized unverified weighing scales. In one instance, the license of Brijwasi Sweets was suspended and sales were halted due to the discovery of expired products and unsanitary storage conditions involving rusted trays and dusty environments.
