Rewe and LEH Allgäu to Acquire German Feneberg Supermarket Chain

The insolvent Allgäu retailer Feneberg, operating 72 supermarkets, will be taken over by a consortium of Rewe and the newly formed investment group LEH Allgäu GmbH. Under the plan, Rewe will acquire roughly 35 stores while LEH Allgäu will take over the remaining 37, with all outlets continuing to operate under the Feneberg brand. The acquisition preserves the long‑standing “Von hier” program that supplies local Allgäu producers, a key concern for regional farmers.

The deal, which beat out a competing bid from Edeka, has been approved by the creditors' committee but still requires clearance from the German competition authority and final sign‑off by the creditors’ assembly. Once completed, Rewe will also handle the supply chain for the entire network, strengthening its market position in the Allgäu region.
