Rhein-Main S-Bahn fleet undergoes modernization

The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and Deutsche Bahn are modernizing the S-Bahn Rhein-Main fleet by redesigning 98 ET430 series vehicles. The upgrades include a new design in S-Bahn green and RMV blue, improved passenger information displays, and the addition of power outlets.

To increase efficiency and capacity, the trains will feature funnel-shaped entrance areas to facilitate faster boarding and exiting, as well as a new seating concept that increases passenger capacity by 15%. The first redesigned vehicle was presented at the Frankfurt main station, with the updated trains expected to begin service on lines S1, S4, S8, and S9.
