Rheola House: Five teens charged with arson after historic mansion fire

Five teenagers have been charged with arson following a devastating fire that nearly destroyed Rheola House, a Grade II*-listed mansion near Neath in south Wales. The historic property was designed by John Nash, the architect responsible for Buckingham Palace, Marble Arch, and the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.

The blaze, which occurred on August 18, has dealt a significant blow to redevelopment plans by The Brook Group. The owners had intended to transform the estate into a luxury retreat featuring a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and spa, having only recently resolved obstacles to the project.

Five individuals—Kyle Renzoni (18), Ellis Harding (19), Yian Foster (18), Evan Traynor (18), and a 17-year-old whose identity is protected—have been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. Jason Brook, CEO of The Brook Group, commended the swift actions of the South Wales Police and expressed frustration over the timing of the incident.
