Rheola House arson investigation

Overview

A fire destroyed Rheola House, a Grade II* listed manor in the Neath Valley designed by architect John Nash. The blaze occurred on August 18, gutting the historic building.

Five teenagers, aged 17 to 19, have been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. One 18-year-old defendant also faces a charge for possession of a knife blade in a public place. The defendants appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court following the incident.

The fire has significantly impacted redevelopment plans by The Brook Group, which intended to transform the estate into a luxury retreat featuring a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and spa. Jason Brook, CEO of the group, expressed frustration regarding the timing of the fire.
