Rhineland-Palatinate firefighters conclude forest fire operations

Firefighters in Rhineland-Palatinate have concluded operations following two significant forest fires in the Westerwald and Vordereifel regions.

In the Westerwald area near Gebhardshain, a fire burned through four hectares of a ten-hectare forest. The blaze was brought under control on Sunday evening after flames reached within 20 meters of buildings, necessitating the temporary evacuation of a street containing 20 households. Approximately 60 emergency responders remained on-site through Monday afternoon to conduct follow-up work.

A separate, larger fire in Langscheid, located in the Vordereifel, consumed roughly 50 hectares of land. This incident required the deployment of approximately 650 emergency personnel. Local fire officials report that the situation there has stabilized, and recent rainfall has allowed crews to transition to routine patrol duties.
