RHINOSHIELD case sets Guinness record after 30km stratosphere drop

RHINOSHIELD and the British aerospace company Sent Into Space have set a Guinness World Record for the “Highest Drop of a Mobile Phone in a Phone Case (Natural Landforms).” An iPhone 17 Pro, protected by the RHINOSHIELD AirX case, was released from a high-altitude balloon at an altitude of 30,607 meters (approximately 100,418 feet) over Kiruna, Sweden.

The device underwent a 25-minute free fall through the stratosphere, enduring extreme conditions including temperatures between -40°C and -60°C and atmospheric pressure at roughly 1% of sea level. To comply with Guinness World Record rules, the phone was dropped without a parachute, and the case was required to make the initial contact with the ground.

Following a five-hour search in the Swedish wilderness, the team successfully recovered the device. Verification by Guinness officials confirmed that the smartphone remained fully functional, with the ability to power on/off, make calls, and take photographs, while showing no significant external damage. The AirX case, which features a single-material recyclable design inspired by automotive airbags, was credited with absorbing and dispersing the impact energy.
