Greece combats wildfires on Crete, Rhodes, Corfu and Thessaloniki

Firefighters are battling multiple wildfires across Greece. In Crete, the blaze near Ierapetra and the Gazios area of Heraklion involved 49 and 30 firefighters respectively, supported by dozens of vehicles, two helicopters and water‑dropping aircraft, with no reported damage to homes or injuries so far. Separate alerts were issued for fires on Rhodes and Corfu, where aerial units were deployed to the Ataviro and Vasilika sites. In the Thessaloniki regional unit, a fire on a vacant plot in Therma was tackled by 22 firefighters and seven vehicles, monitored by drones equipped with thermal cameras, and also posed no threat to residential structures. Authorities continue to monitor all incidents and assess damage, keeping the situation under close watch.
