Rhodes health authorities investigate gastroenteritis outbreak
Health authorities in Rhodes have issued an alert following a significant rise in gastroenteritis cases. Between August 1 and August 20, 2026, 298 individuals presented at the Rhodes General Hospital with symptoms of the illness.
This represents a notable increase compared to the same period last year, when 201 cases were recorded during the entire month of August 2025. The National Public Health Organization (EODY) has intervened, requesting extensive inspections of the city's water supply system.
Authorities are being asked to collect water samples from representative points in the network, as well as from wells, springs, and reservoirs. Additionally, officials have requested all sampling results conducted between May and August 2026 regarding the water supply network, biological treatment plants, and seawater, along with residual chlorine measurement records.
