Rhodes police arrest two for impersonating accountants in fraud scheme
Greek police have dismantled a criminal gang in Rhodes that defrauded citizens by impersonating accounting office employees. Two men, aged 22 and 25, were arrested in connection with the scheme.
The gang utilized a specific methodology where an individual would call victims claiming to be an accountant. They convinced women to hand over cash and jewelry kept in their homes, under the pretext that the items needed to be recorded and transferred to a bank to avoid fines or loss of value.
According to police reports, the 22-year-old acted as the collector, receiving valuables at predetermined locations outside victims' homes, while the 25-year-old served as the driver. After fleeing Rhodes by ferry to Karpathos on September 6, the suspects were located and apprehended by Karpathos police on September 7. Authorities seized 800 euros and three mobile phones. The suspects face charges of forming a criminal organization and repeated fraud.
