Rhodes suspect detained after seizure of over 1.3 kg of cocaine

A 59‑year‑old Albanian, permanent resident of the Greek island of Rhodes and hotel employee, was arrested on 3 August 2026 after police from the Rhodes Drug Unit stopped a taxi near the Akanthia port. The suspect attempted to conceal a bag, which was found to contain a vacuum‑packed package of cocaine weighing about 1.207 kg.

Further searches of a hotel room in Faliraki and the suspect’s residence uncovered additional small cocaine packages and an electronic scale capable of weighing up to 6 kg. Prosecutors estimate the expected profit from the haul at more than €75,000. The suspect appeared before the B‑level Criminal Court on 7 August, denied the charges, and was ordered to remain in temporary detention pending further investigation.
