Rhodes: Two kittens rescued from garbage truck

A complex rescue operation took place on Rhodes to save two kittens trapped inside a garbage truck. The vehicle had arrived at the port of Akantia from Kastos when the animals were discovered by a local resident, Natalia Orfanidi, who heard their cries.

Authorities, including the Police, Coast Guard, and local municipal officials, coordinated the effort. The rescue was complicated by the fact that the truck was filled with compressed waste; opening the rear door posed a risk of the trash spilling out and crushing the kittens due to pressure.

To ensure safety, the vehicle was transported to the waste disposal site in Tsairi. Using earth-moving machinery, officials were able to open the door gradually and controlled. The operation concluded late in the afternoon, with both kittens being successfully rescued alive and safe.
