Rhys Ifans supports Wrexham bid for UK City of Culture 2029

Actor and musician Rhys Ifans has expressed his support for Wrexham’s bid to be named the UK City of Culture for 2029. The town has been shortlisted alongside Blackpool, Milton Keynes, and Sheffield to compete for the title.

Ifans, known for roles in ‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, and ‘House of the Dragon’, stated that the bid represents an opportunity to put both Wrexham and Wales on the map as major centers for creativity and the arts.

An advisory panel from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport is scheduled to visit Wrexham in late November. The winner will be announced in early 2027 and will receive £10 million in funding from the UK government to host a year-long cultural program.
