Former Riau Governor Abdul Wahid Sentenced to Two Years in Prison
The Pekanbaru Corruption Court sentenced former Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, who had been suspended from office, to two years' imprisonment for corruption. The court also imposed a fine of 200 million rupiah, with a substitution of 80 days' detention if the fine is not paid, and ordered him to repay 1.45 billion rupiah, authorising asset seizure if the amount is not settled within one month. Time already served in detention was deducted from the sentence, and Wahid remains in custody pending a final judgment.
Hundreds of supporters, many of them women, filled the courtroom for the verdict, chanting takbir and creating long queues. Police tightened security, conducting bag checks on all entrants to maintain order during the hearing.
