Ribeira Brava donates funds to Banco Alimentar da Venezuela

The municipality of Ribeira Brava, in Madeira, has become the first entity in the region to provide financial support to the Banco Alimentar da Venezuela following the earthquakes on June 24. A donation of five thousand euros, raised during the Luso-Venezuelan Festival, was officially presented by Mayor Jorge Santos to the institution's president, Marianela Fernandes.

The initiative was organized by the municipality in partnership with Diário de Notícias and other collaborators. During a visit to the facilities, Mayor Jorge Santos noted that while food supplies are available, there is a critical need for logistical support, including the reception, separation, packaging, transport, and distribution of goods. He emphasized that financial donations are currently the most effective way to assist the institution.

The Banco Alimentar da Venezuela works with 55 social organizations to provide aid to approximately 15,000 to 16,000 people. In response to the recent seismic activity, the organization has expanded its operations to include the collection and distribution of medicines, medical supplies, clothing, and other essential items. The donated funds will be used to cover costs for vehicles and trucks used in their operations.
