Madeira humanitarian aid for Venezuela

Overview

Following seismic activity in Venezuela, the Madeira region has initiated various humanitarian aid efforts. The municipality of Ribeira Brava became the first regional entity to provide financial support, donating five thousand euros raised during the Luso-Venezuelan Festival to the Banco Alimentar da Venezuela to assist with the transport and distribution of goods, medicines, and clothing.

On a broader scale, the Madeira Regional Government has provided significant aid, including the deployment of technical teams for search and rescue operations and the mobilization of civil protection personnel to assist the Madeiran community residing in Venezuela.

During the third ‘Madeira Solidária’ Gala held in Barquisimeto, Sancho Gomes, the Regional Director of Communities and External Cooperation, highlighted the solidarity of the Madeiran diaspora. He reported that the Madeira Regional Government has mobilized a total of 180,000 euros in financial support. Of this amount, 150,000 euros were transferred directly to social and associative institutions to ensure rapid assistance and “bypass bureaucratic delays in the reconstruction of lives.”
