Ricardo Gallardo rejects water rate hikes in San Luis Potosí
San Luis Potosí Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona has rejected a proposed 8 percent increase in water tariffs, citing ongoing supply failures in various neighborhoods of the capital. The rejection follows a vote by Pascual Martínez Sánchez, head of the State Water Commission (CEA), who argued that the proposed Interapas rate hike for 2027 lacked sufficient technical and economic justification.
Gallardo Cardona stated that rate increases are unjustifiable while residents continue to face water shortages. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to a proposal that would exempt senior citizens from paying for water services, criticizing political opponents for turning the initiative into a partisan dispute.
In a separate effort to address regional needs, the Governor announced an investment of over 10 million pesos in the Lagunillas region. This includes 6.8 million pesos for street paving in Carrizal de San Juan de Abajo and 3.1 million pesos for a school roof in Pinohuán. Gallardo Cardona emphasized that his administration aims to prioritize small, previously neglected communities through continuous field visits.
