Morena deputies seek final re-election opportunity in 2027

Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the Morena parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies, estimates that between 130 and 150 federal deputies will seek re-election in the 2027 elections. This represents a significant number of legislators attempting to remain in office during what is expected to be the final opportunity for consecutive re-election before constitutional changes prohibit the practice starting in 2030.

To secure candidacies, interested legislators must undergo an internal party process involving district-level surveys. Monreal noted that candidates will not be required to take a leave of absence from their current duties during the process. Additionally, the party is implementing strategic internal selections for state coordinators ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial races, utilizing extensive polling to shape political profiles.

In related legislative developments, Monreal has proposed salary deductions for deputies who are absent without justification during sessions. Furthermore, discussions regarding federalized spending for 2027 have commenced, with officials noting that transfers to states and municipalities are projected to reach approximately 3.048 trillion pesos.
