France recalls 7 million condoms across EU due to manufacturing defects

French authorities have suspended the import and sale of ultra-thin latex condoms manufactured by the Malaysian company Richter Rubber Technology. The decision follows investigations by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) into manufacturing irregularities.

The recall affects 15 product references, representing approximately 7 million condoms distributed within the European Union. The defects, caused by fluctuations in the thickness and quality of the latex film during production, may lead to the condoms bursting or perforating during use. This poses a heightened risk of unintended pregnancy and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.

Several brands are implicated in the recall, including My Lubie, Einhorn, Adloran, R&S Consumer Goods, Amor, Primeros, and You Me. Authorities noted that eight users have already reported condom breakages linked to the affected batches.

The suspension of imports and sales is valid for one year and is subject to renewal. Consumers who have recently used the affected products are advised to undergo STI screening and pregnancy testing if menstruation is delayed.
