Ricin plants found near school in Molise investigation

Investigators in Molise have discovered several ricin plants during their investigation into the deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, and her daughter Sara Di Vita, 15. The plants were found in various locations, including the fields between Riccia and Lake Occhito, and most recently near the Institute of Human Sciences in Casacalenda.

The discovery follows the suspected poisoning of the mother and daughter in Pietracatella. While ricin is a highly toxic substance derived from castor bean seeds, authorities have stated that no direct link has yet been established between the presence of these plants and the deaths.

Recent investigative actions include forensic copies of a notebook and digital searches at the Casacalenda institute, where Laura Di Vita, a relative of the victims, works as a teacher. Investigators are also exploring a potential motive related to a personal relationship, following reports that Gianni Di Vita admitted to an extramarital affair during questioning.
