Rigathi Gachagua accuses IEBC of rigging 2027 election tender

Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of attempting to manipulate the procurement process for the 2027 General Election. Gachagua alleges that the commission has tailored tender specifications to favor Miru Systems, a South Korean firm, to facilitate financial gain and electoral fraud.

According to Gachagua, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and Vice Chairperson Fahima Abdallah are driving the push for this specific technology. He claims that officials within the Directorate of Supply Chain Management and the Directorate of Electoral Management were pressured to provide false testimony to the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB) to defend the disputed requirements.

Gachagua further alleges that staff members who refused to participate in the alleged cover-up were victimized and transferred to remote counties, being replaced by commission loyalists. He warned that transitioning to a new election management system so close to the polls is technically unfeasible and could be used to interfere with the integrity of the voters' register.
