Rigathi Gachagua faces legal threats and convoy attack in Nakuru
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), is facing heightened political and legal tensions following a series of events in Nakuru. During a rally, Gachagua accused President William Ruto and Deputy Prof. Kithure Kindiki of attempting to divide the Mt. Kenya region—specifically the Kikuyu, Embu, and Meru communities—to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Amidst these political maneuvers, Gachagua’s convoy was reportedly attacked and pelted with stones by a hostile group in Soko Mjinga, Nakuru West Sub-County. While no injuries were reported, the incident occurred during the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts.
Simultaneously, Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has filed a police complaint against Gachagua, accusing him of criminal cybercrime and defamation. Gikaria alleges that Gachagua made remarks linking him to violence and deaths during the Ol Kalou by-election. Gikaria’s lawyers have issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding a retraction and an apology, threatening a civil defamation suit if the demand is not met.
