Rijeka Gateway reaches 100-vessel milestone
The Rijeka Gateway container terminal has reached a milestone by welcoming its 100th vessel, occurring just days before the first anniversary of its commercial operations. The 99th and 100th ships, the Moraga and Conship Luv, arrived almost simultaneously to undergo cargo loading and unloading operations.
As part of a weekly rotation established in late July, these vessels are part of a collaboration with global shipping companies Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. The terminal serves as a transshipment hub for import and export cargo involving Italian ports such as Trieste, Venice, Ravenna, and Ancona.
Rijeka Gateway is currently the only terminal on the Adriatic Sea performing these specific operations within the Gemini network, an operational collaboration between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. The terminal functions as a key connection point on the AE12/SE1 line, linking major Asian ports with the Mediterranean. Of the 100 vessels received so far, 47 were large intercontinental container ships and 53 were feeder vessels.
