Rimini debates beach redevelopment and new concession plans
Public discussions and debates are underway in Rimini regarding the ‘Piano dell’Arenile’, a new plan for the city's coastline. A recent meeting organized by Agorà Rimini and Altrocanale addressed concerns over the transformation of the beach, specifically regarding public access and the future of beach concessions.
Organizers clarified that the plan aims to safeguard and enhance free public beaches near the Parco del Mare and main urban axes, rather than reducing public space. The meeting featured urban planning experts and local administrators to counter misinformation regarding the project.
However, local business owners have expressed significant concerns. Romeo Nardi, a long-time beach operator, and representatives from Confesercenti have voiced opposition to the potential rise of ‘maxi-establishments’ or macro-aggregations. These large-scale projects, which could involve groups of at least eight beach clubs, are criticized for potentially turning the coastline into ‘luna parks’ with higher prices, which critics argue may not align with the preferences of the city's core middle-class family demographic. Projects for these macro-aggregations are expected to be presented by mid-September, with new concession auctions scheduled for 2027.
