Pope Leo XIV to visit San Marino and Rimini for Meeting
Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to undertake a pastoral visit to the Republic of San Marino and Rimini, Italy, on Saturday, August 22. The visit includes a meeting with San Marino's Captains Regent and a visit to the Basilica of Saint Marinus. Following this, the Pope will travel to Rimini to participate in the Rimini Meeting, an annual event organized by the Catholic movement Comunione e Liberazione.
The Rimini Meeting, held from August 21 to 26, will occupy 140,000 square meters of the Rimini Fair. To accommodate the Pope's address, a Grand Auditorium with a 10,000-seat capacity has been constructed. The event features over 150 meetings, 13 exhibitions, and 13 shows. Approximately 3,300 volunteers are supporting the event, many of whom are students from cities like Milan, Bologna, and Ferrara.
In Rimini, the Pope's itinerary includes visiting exhibitions, meeting with the vulnerable and the poor at the Tempio Malatestiano, and presiding over a final Eucharistic celebration at the port. Local authorities have implemented a major security plan, including road restrictions in San Marino and a red zone in Rimini. Hotel occupancy in the region is expected to exceed 95 percent due to the influx of pilgrims and attendees.
