Rimini Municipality approves 9 million euro university campus purchase

The Rimini City Council has approved the purchase of the via Angherà university campus from Fondazione Carim for 9 million euros. The administration intends to transfer the building to the Alma Mater Studiorum university via a free loan agreement to reduce rental costs and free up resources for new courses and services.

The decision has sparked significant political debate. Opposition members, including councilor Gloria Lisi, criticized the expenditure, arguing that the investment lacks binding guarantees for new degree programs or expanded student spaces. They suggested that public funds should instead prioritize urgent social needs, such as elderly care, social housing, and road maintenance.

Vice Mayor Chiara Bellini defended the move as a strategic investment to consolidate the university's presence in the city and prevent the institution from being forced to relocate due to high leasing costs.
