Rimini tops Italy beach resort ranking as Polish tourists surge

Rimini has been named Italy’s most popular seaside resort in the Mare Italia 2026 ranking, edging out Jesolo and Riccione with 3,697 votes. The local tourism sector highlights a rising share of Polish visitors, who are increasingly choosing upscale hotels and local dining options.

At the same time, Italy is grappling with overtourism. Crowds overwhelm narrow streets in Rome, where the Trevi Fountain imposes a 400‑person limit and charges a 2‑euro entry fee for tourists. Similar congestion appears around Lake Como, Cinque Terre and popular beaches such as Sardinia’s La Pelosa, prompting temporary entry limits and complaints from residents about crowding, rising housing costs and strain on public services.
