Rimini leads beach rankings amid shifting tourism and social
Overview
Rimini continues to lead Italy’s beach tourism rankings, recently reclaiming the top spot in the JFC Observatory’s Panorama Turismo-Mare Italia report. While hotel occupancy is projected to reach 80–85% in July and nearly 90% in August, the sector faces a shifting landscape. A decade-long study shows a 25.3% rise in central restaurants alongside a nearly 18% decline in bars, reflecting a move toward full-service dining. Fipe provincial president Denis Preite noted, “In aumento i ristoranti in centro e sul mare, ma sono anche le persone a cambiare, non solo le imprese.”
Visitor demographics are evolving, with a notable surge in Polish tourists opting for upscale hotels. Recent trends in the Romagna region show continued demand for holiday homes, particularly from French travelers, though there is a noted absence of Russian tourists. To diversify the season, the city is pairing historic sites with music festivals and the Meeting for Friendship between Peoples. This diversification includes nature-based activities such as canoeing at Lake Ridracoli and horseback riding in the Po Delta Park.
Social developments are also emerging in Rimini, such as the “Ruote di Comunità” project, which uses specialized transport to help seniors access community events and essential services. Meanwhile, the regional reception system is facing challenges due to a 53.7% drop in migrant landings compared to 2025, leading to the closure of several extraordinary reception centers as contracts expire without renewal.
Simultaneously, the outdoor tourism market in the Forlì-Cesena Riviera remains strong, with high demand for mobile homes and bungalows through mid-September. Political tensions persist as the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) challenges upcoming beach concession tenders.
