Rio Branco teachers persist with protests after court orders strike suspension

A court order in Rio Branco, Brazil suspended the municipal education strike and imposed daily fines of R$ 50,000 on the teachers’ unions, limited to a total of R$ 500,000. In response, teachers organized a new demonstration for Monday in front of the Tribunal de Justiça do Acre, using the slogan “A luta continua” and emphasizing that the movement will now be driven directly by the educators rather than the unions.

The municipal government has called all education staff back to work, warning that absenteeism will result in salary deductions and other administrative penalties. Officials stressed the need to resume classes to meet the school calendar and minimize disruption for students. The dispute centers on demands for higher wages, a revised career plan, better support staff conditions, and improvements to school infrastructure.
