Rio de Janeiro and BNDES agree to renegotiate R$ 8 billion debt

The BNDES and the interim government of Rio de Janeiro have reached an agreement to renegotiate a debt of R$ 8 billion. The debt includes R$ 6.1 billion for Metro Line 4, built for the 2016 Olympics, and R$ 1.9 billion for Supervia. The deal aims to extend financing terms and reduce annual installments, which is expected to save the state treasury approximately R$ 242 million per year.

Separately, BNDES officials noted that infrastructure investments in Brazil are projected to reach R$ 1 trillion between 2023 and 2026. While investment volumes in certain sectors have increased, experts suggest that attracting long-term capital remains dependent on addressing fiscal imbalances and high interest rates.
