Rio de Janeiro authorities launch joint crackdowns on illegal transport and fuel station violations

The municipal government of Petrópolis and the State Department of Road Transport (Detro RJ) carried out a joint operation on 23 June, targeting unlicensed passenger‑transport services. Police seized 42 vehicles in the Retiro and Alto da Serra areas, issuing two state fines and 19 municipal citations for infractions including unauthorized ride‑hailing, expired registrations and safety violations.

A separate joint inspection on 24 June in Japeri, Baixada Fluminense, involved the State Consumer Defense Secretariat, Procon‑RJ, the National Petroleum Agency, the Institute of Weights and Measures and the Military Police. Inspectors found numerous compliance failures at a fuel station, such as missing consumer‑complaint book, lack of tax‑information signage, absent supplier identification on pumps and no fire‑safety clearance from the state fire corps. The station was cited for these violations, with officials emphasizing the need for clear, safe information for consumers.

Both actions illustrate coordinated efforts by Rio de Janeiro’s municipal and state agencies to enforce transportation and consumer‑protection regulations.
