Rio de Janeiro authorities seek fugitive after prison escape

Authorities in Rio de Janeiro have issued a search notice for Elias Junior Oliveira Zamluti Soares, known as 'Juninho Bocão' or 'Júnior'. The 45-year-old failed to return to prison following a temporary release granted for the Children's Day holiday.

Soares is identified as one of the individuals involved in the 2019 homicide of Military Police Sergeant Alexandre Balbino Silva. The sergeant was killed during an attempted robbery at a gas station near Resende. While other suspects in that case were previously arrested or killed in confrontations, Soares remains at large.

In a separate case, police are also seeking Diego Costa de Macedo da Conceição, 39. Conceição failed to return to prison after a temporary release and is wanted for the 2019 attempted murder of his former partner in São Gonçalo. The attack, motivated by domestic violence, involved the use of scissors and resulted in serious injury to the victim.
