Karen Lopes has been named the new Queen of Estácio de Sá for 2027. Her appointment coincides with the school's centennial celebration.

There is a growing trend of samba schools opting to commission samba-enredos rather than holding traditional competitions. Currently, 11 of the 29 sambas for the Sapucaí parade have been commissioned, including those for União da Ilha do Governador and Unidos de Padre Miguel.
