Rio de Janeiro cultural venues announce new projects and reopenings

Cultural venues in Rio de Janeiro are undergoing new developments. The Teatro Riachuelo Rio is offering free guided tours on August 28. The program, led by Guilherme Siman and Ana Flávia Botelho, provides a 45-minute immersive experience through the theater's backstage and history, utilizing original dramaturgies to highlight the building's significance as a historical landmark.

Meanwhile, the historic Teatro Princesa Isabel in Copacabana is preparing for a reopening. Closed since 2024 following the death of founder Orlando Miranda, the venue and its surrounding gallery will undergo renovations. Director Gilmar de Araújo expressed an expectation for a reopening by next summer, though a definitive date has not been set. The site holds a significant archive of Rio's cultural history, including materials related to the era of military censorship.
