Rio de Janeiro expands digital parking system to Saara and Praia Vermelha

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall has announced the expansion of the ‘Rio Rotativo Digital’ parking system to the Saara and Praia Vermelha areas, effective September 14. This initiative aims to reduce the influence of unauthorized street attendants in the city center and near the Sugarloaf Mountain cable car access.

The expansion plan also includes adding 1,200 spaces along the Barra da Tijuca waterfront, extending the service from Praça do Ó to the access point of Avenida Ayrton Senna. Drivers must use the Jaé application to manage parking, which requires registering the vehicle's make, model, license plate, and color.

Parking rates are set at R$ 2 for the first two hours, with a maximum stay of six hours at a total cost of R$ 6. Drivers who fail to pay at the time of occupancy have up to eight hours to regularize the debt, subject to a 100% surcharge, fines, or vehicle removal. Former street attendants will transition into official collaborators, using mobile devices to verify payments and register occupancy for a fee of R$ 1.40 per regularized vehicle, though they are prohibited from charging drivers directly.
