Rio de Janeiro expands library access and literary programs

Cultural and educational initiatives are expanding in Rio de Janeiro through new library programs and installations.

The Biblioteca Parque Estadual (BPE), under the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, has launched a weekly interactive guided literary tour. The program, which offers 30 free spots per session, uses literature, poetry, and participatory dynamics to engage the public with the library's collections and history. Sessions are held on Mondays at the BPE in downtown Rio.

Additionally, the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) is inaugurating a new unit of the ‘Biblioteca Para Todos’ project at its Maracanã campus. A partnership between the Ministry of Culture and EGP Brasil, this initiative aims to install three libraries in the capital to benefit over 7,000 students. The Uerj unit, located at the biomedicine campus, is open to students from both public and private networks aged 13 and older and features new furniture and technological resources.
