Educational and literary initiatives in Rio de Janeiro have expanded through various community and institutional programs.
The Bienal nas Escolas project, featuring educator Bárbara Carine, has worked to promote literacy and citizenship by engaging with students in neighborhoods such as Méier. The 2026 edition of this program has reached approximately one thousand students and includes the donation of 100 books to each participating school to strengthen local libraries.
Furthering access to literature, the Biblioteca Parque Estadual has introduced weekly interactive guided tours in downtown Rio to engage the public with its collections. Simultaneously, the ‘Biblioteca Para Todos’ project, a partnership between the Ministry of Culture and EGP Brasil, is expanding its reach with a new unit at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) Maracanã campus. This broader initiative aims to establish three libraries in the capital to serve more than 7,000 students.
