Rio de Janeiro registers nearly 13 million eligible voters for 2026 elections
The 2026 Brazilian elections will see 12,857,000 eligible voters in the state of Rio de Janeiro, a rise of 0.23% (29,704 voters) from the 2022 roll. Of these, 81.06% have biometric data registered with the electoral court, allowing fingerprint voting.
Rio de Janeiro accounts for 8.10% of the national electorate, making it the third‑largest electoral college in Brazil. The capital city holds the biggest share with 4,950,429 eligible voters, followed by São Gonçalo (653,494), Duque de Caxias (635,079) and Nova Iguaçu (615,377). Women comprise 54% of the state's electorate (6,946,339 voters) while men represent 46% (5,902,909). Voters aged 16‑17 and those 70 and older are eligible but may vote voluntarily.
These figures set the demographic backdrop for the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial and legislative contests scheduled for 4 October 2026.
