Rio de Janeiro hosts festivals celebrating favela culture and innovation

Two major events in Rio de Janeiro are highlighting the cultural and entrepreneurial potential of Brazil's favelas. The Favela Cultech Summit 2026, held at the Biblioteca Parque da Rocinha, focuses on the intersection of culture, technology, and innovation. The summit aims to connect local talent in fields such as robotics, gaming, audiovisual production, and digital design with companies and professional partners.

Additionally, the Festival Favela Cria is taking place in central Rio de Janeiro to showcase peripheral creativity through music, literature, visual arts, and gastronomy. The festival seeks to provide visibility and investment opportunities for community artists and entrepreneurs. Organizers expect approximately 60,000 attendees and emphasize that the event prioritizes local employment by hiring professionals from the communities themselves.
