Brazil prepares for 2026 general elections FAST-MOVING

Brazil is entering the final stages of preparation for the 2026 general elections, scheduled for October 4. The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is coordinating the logistics for deploying electronic voting machines nationwide, including to remote areas.

Key voting procedures include a fixed sequence: federal deputy, state deputy, two senators, governor, and president. Voters are permitted to use a paper note to assist with candidate numbers, but electronic devices like cell phones must be turned off and handed to poll workers to ensure secrecy. Identification can be provided via official photo documents or the e-Título app, which can now be downloaded up until election day.

Regarding campaign regulations, free radio and television advertising and debates have concluded. While rallies and parades are permitted until the Saturday before the vote, new restrictions apply to AI-generated content. Additionally, several states, primarily in the North, have implemented alcohol sales restrictions during the election period.

To monitor irregularities, citizens can use the Pardal app, which has already recorded over 50,000 reports, mostly concerning irregular propaganda on public roads. In Rio de Janeiro, the SISP Cidadão app provides a similar reporting mechanism for local issues like vote buying.
