Rio de Janeiro launches integrated crackdown on fuel sector crimes

State officials in Rio de Janeiro met on Thursday, 16 May, to coordinate a stronger response against organized crime in strategic economic areas, with a focus on the fuel sector. Prosecutor‑General Antonio José Campos Moreira, Finance Secretary Guilherme Mercês and State Prosecutor Bruno Dubeux agreed to enhance operational integration among control, inspection and criminal‑justice bodies.

The plan includes reviving the Interinstitutional Committee for Asset Recovery (Cira) to conduct joint intelligence, investigations and asset‑recovery actions. Held at the National Anti‑Fraud Office and promoted by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the initiative aims to improve the state's capacity to identify criminal activity, hold perpetrators accountable and protect the economic order.
