Rio de Janeiro mansion demolished for luxury condominium

Demolition has begun on a R$ 220 million mansion located in the Jardim Pernambuco area of Leblon, Rio de Janeiro. The property, formerly owned by the Amaral family—founders of the defunct Disco supermarket chain—is being cleared to make way for a new high-end residential development.

Prior to the demolition, various items from the estate were auctioned, including furniture, decorative pieces, staircases, lighting poles, and even a miniature dollhouse replica of the mansion. Technical infrastructure, such as air conditioning systems and generators, was also liquidated.

The developer, Mozak, purchased the approximately 11,000 square meter plot in 2024. The site will host the Estância Pernambuco condominium, which is planned to feature 10 houses with an estimated total sales value of R$ 360 million. Individual property prices are expected to start at R$ 23 million.
